Morning Mentmore Meander

A 7.5-mile circular walk from Mentmore, walking along the Grand Union Canal with views of The White Lion of Whipsnade, Ivinghoe Beacon and Mentmore Towers.

Setting off nice and early, this walk will help you get the weekend started right. We'll head off through open fields from the charming village of Mentmore, known for its view of Mentmore Towers, a commanding ex-Rothschild property that can be seen from miles away. After a couple of miles we meet the Grand Union Canal, where we'll pick up the towpath and wind our way along, enjoying views of the lion and the beacon the whole way.

Finally, we'll pass through the quaint village of Cheddington before making our way back through open fields to Mentmore, where we'll stop for a well-earned drink at the village-owned pub, The Stag. There's also the opportunity to have lunch on the green before heading off so feel free to bring a packed lunch, though we won't stop for lunch enroute.

There are some stiles on the walk and there should be some good blackberry-picking opportunities along the canal so bring a container if you'd like to take some home.

Please park considerately around the green, see map pin for location.

Please bring plenty of water and dress appropriately for the weather. If it is sunny and hot, please bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and extra water.
