Join us for an introductory walk geared at those looking to try the group for the first time. This means a gentle walk, extra time for socialising and the knowledge there will be other newbies on the day, though regulars are of course just as welcome and newbies you are welcome to pick any walk as your first walk!
We'll set off from the main car park in Gt Missenden (see map pin) before heading underneath the trainline and through the beautiful autumnal woodlands north of the village, famous for its association with Roald Dahl and his taking inspiration for many of his books in these forests.
We'll get the hill out of the way first thing and emerge into the pretty village of Prestwood before plunging back into the woodlands and emerging once more at the delightful Peterley Manor Farm, known for its award-winning farm shop, farm kitchen and PYO fruit. We'll stop here for an hour for tea, cake, a mooch around the shop and potentially to pick a pumpkin if they've opened for that by then (currently TBC).
Warmed, fed and possibly carrying a pumpkin we'll head back out the other side past (usually) some curious Alpacas and make our way back downhill through yet more pretty woodland and the village of Little Kingshill to our start point.
To bring:
- A warm jumper
- Waterproof coat
- Walking shoes or boots (something with some grip that you don't mind getting muddy please, as if it has recently rained the woods can get muddy and slippery underfoot)
- If particularly cold, a hat and gloves
- Minimum 500ml water
- Snacks if you don't want to buy anything at the farm
Dogs welcome on leads throughout - some fields we pass through may have grazing livestock so dog owners are asked to be mindful of this.
