How would you describe your level of Chinese? (Eg it's my native language OR I don't speak it OR I learned some dialect from my family but little Mandarin, OR I can speak a few words, simple conversations, etc.)

I studied with a private tutor in China, reaching a lower intermediate level over the year. I am looking to keep developing my language skills.

What kind of events and activities would you be interested in? What would you like to do at our events?

I like the idea of going to the local Chinese restaurants and chatting in Chinese.

Where did you grow up? How did you learn Chinese? Tell us your story.

I grew up in the Midwest before coming to Washington DC to attend college. There I studied Global Affairs. During my time in college I became very interested in China and decided to sign a year teaching contract. I decided to learn as much as I could about Chinese culture and the language while living there. I am now freshly returned from China.

What could this group provide for you that no other Meetup could?

It seems that this group meets consistently and often. I'm just looking to stay involved in the Chinese community.

What are your favorite Chinese dishes and foods?

In China I spent a lot of time eating at the local Harbin and Muslim (Huimin) restaurants. I also really liked eating Sichuan food whenever I got the chance!

Hey everyone! My name is Taryn. I just returned from a year of teaching English in Tanggu, China and am looking for ways to get involved with local Chinese people and the local Chinese enthusiast.
