Sea Urchin, coastal walk and me
Bass Point, Shell Cove NSW 2529, Shell Cove, AURumour says that sea urchin in this area can be collected without ourselves getting into the water. Let's check out if it is true or not.
No matter how, we will have a nice coastal walk anyway. If we are lucky enough to collect any sea urchin, then ** you must first purchase the fishing license from government before collecting them. Please also comply to limits on how many you can catch:**
https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/services/recreational-fishing-licence
Cheapest option is around $7 for 3 days.Tools required (I may be wrong):
- Catch Bag / carry bag
- Non-slippery shoes or bare feet.
- Scissors (if you will eat at the spot. But friends sometimes just use a sharp rock instead)
Actually, if the water is too deep, I personally may give up. Most of the times my friends needed to get into the water to collect sea urchin, but for this spot, some say you don't need to get into the water. We target to go at a low tide, as low as possible. Low tide is expected to be 7:52am for the day. So, our plan is:
8:52am: Oak Flat Station: Take bus #53.
9:19am: Arrive at Shell Cove shopping center. Get some snacks / water.
9:29am: Start walking / hiking.
10:30am: Arrive at Bass Point Car Park. Meet at the rock area where we will look for Sea Urchin.
Those who are early can start collecting while waiting for others to arrive. Then, we willl walk / hike back to Shell Cove or Shellhabour for lunch. Or you may drive there if you are driving.
