Chinese Speed-Friending!
Details
欢迎!我期待认识你们,也期待你们彼此认识,一起练习中文。
Welcome! I look forward to meeting you and for you all to meet each other while practicing Chinese together.
Please join for a friendly and engaging Chinese Speed-Friending event focused on conversation, connection, and building confidence in a relaxed, supportive, and judgment-free environment. All levels are welcome, from complete beginners to more advanced speakers.
## Format
We will begin with a brief welcome and explanation of the format and guidelines (5-10 Minutes)
Participants will rotate partners through short, structured conversation rounds using guided prompts and conversation sheets.
- We will aim for 10 conversation rounds
- Each round about 5 (adjusted depending on group size)
(50 minutes)
Mid-Event Sharing
Halfway through, we will pause and several participants can briefly introduce one person they met, in Chinese if possible, and share something they learned about them. (10 minutes)
Final Sharing
At the end, we will again invite participants to share something about one person they spoke with (10 minutes). If there is time left, everyone can mingle!
## Language & Atmosphere
Chinese is encouraged as much as possible throughout the event. However, this is a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment. No one should feel embarrassed or pressured based on their level. Help one another and learn together.
## Materials & Connection
Conversation sheets will be available in multiple formats:
- Simplified + Pinyin
- Traditional + Pinyin
- Simplified + Pinyin + English
Participants will receive a contact card to exchange names and information, and name tags will be provided (Chinese name, English name, or both).
## Optional Mini-Game
“Find Someone Who…” (找朋友游戏)
Each participant will receive a simple sheet with prompts like:
- Find someone who speaks 2+ languages
- Find someone who has been to China
- Find someone who likes tea more than coffee
- Find someone who studied Chinese over 1 year
You must ask in Chinese and write their name. First to complete (or most completed) shares with the group and gets a prize.
## What to Bring
You're own notebook and pen if desired, a positive attitude, and curiosity about Chinese language and culture.
Please RSVP by 9 am on Friday, March 13th so that I can have a solid head-count and get all the materials needed. You're welcome to bring guests but please include them in your RSVP!
