Welcome to the Alameda Mahjong Social Club.
Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation and involves a degree of chance. But, it is also a fun social game. Although there are many different variations of this game, our social group plays Hong Kong-style Mahjong (13-tile), Manila-style (17-tile) and American-style Mahjong (with Jokers and NML Scorecard). This is for anyone who would like to play or learn Mahjong for fun. All skill levels are welcome.
Our home base is in the city of Alameda in the San Francisco Bay Area. We plan to meetup 2-4 times a month for 3 hour sessions. Open play locations can be at someone's house or be at a public venue around the Bay Area that have square tables to play on... such as cafes, breweries, park. A few locations may require a minimal fee to cover rented space.
For those who have never played before, no worries. Our friendly members will be happy to teach you. After you are taught the basics, then it just takes practice and more playtime to get better at it.
Our main goal is to promote a stress free and friendly social environment for our players. Please keep in mind this mahjong meetup will be more geared to just playing for fun and exercising our brain cells and not playing for money. We want to provide playtime opportunities for others who also enjoy mahjong like we do to come join us and just play.
