Christchurch C. S. Lewis Reading and Discussion Group

This month we'll be be going back to our "read aloud on the night" format and reading Screwtape Proposes a Toast, an addendum to the Screwtape Letters, which we read last year. This little work takes the form of an after-dinner speech given by Screwtape at the Tempters' Training College for young devils.

Franci and I will put on a nice spread of food and drink to go with the evening. This month we're planning to read aloud Lewis's essay "Is Theology Poetry?", an essay that was originally presented in 1944 at the Oxford debating society called the "Socratic Club". The essay argues that Christian theology may be poetic, but it is not merely poetry -- it is poetry because it is true, not true because it is poetic.
