We’re looking for volunteer members to join us for our next Bento Project event in October 2025!

Thanks to our amazing volunteers, we’ve held two successful events so far:

Until now, we’ve run Bento Project as a small team, but we plan to reach more people through media and crowdfunding in New Zealand and Japan in the future.

🌱 What is Bento Project?

Bento Project is an initiative based in Christchurch, New Zealand, sharing authentic Japanese food culture combined with sustainable and eco-friendly practices.

We make handmade bentos (Japanese lunch boxes) using local and organic ingredients, connecting people to each other and to nature through food. Part of our sales go towards hosting community events, cooking classes, supporting environmental organisations, and poverty relief activities.

We believe eating is not just about filling your stomach – it is an act of caring for people, community, and the Earth.

We want to create a society where daily meals become “earth-friendly choices.” By delivering authentic Japanese bentos made from local organic ingredients, we hope to protect nature and support those in need.

• Support communities and people facing challenges

Each bento is a small step to bring smiles to people and to the Earth.

• Helping with food preparation and plating
• Assisting with shopping and ingredient prep
• Creating menus
• Making signs and decorations
• Supporting at the event (reception, sales, setting up)
• Social media and promotion support
• Photography and video content creation

📝 Volunteer Schedule
• Meetings: Once each in July, August, and September
• Preparation days: Thursday 2 Oct, Friday 3 Oct, and event day Saturday 4 Oct
