Why is it so hard for you to change? Why do your thoughts betray you? Why do you feel incapable to creating the life of your dreams?
You have unconscious resistance to change. Your need for familiarity is stronger than your need for survival.
Therefore, when you desire change you must link that change to a primal drive, the strongest of which may be different for each person. Much of the resistance is due to the fact that you are at war within the silent chambers of your own mind. In other words your conscious mind is out out of rapport with your unconscious mind.
There are six possible reason why you self sabotage. Predominately you will have one or two reasons why you sabotage your results and cause yourself to slip into attitudes and behaviours that you do not want.
Understanding why you sabotage is a major piece of the puzzle when it comes to solving your personal challenges. The second major piece and the solution is taught in 3 simple and effective steps using the WIN formula.
Some people tell me that they have mastered self sabotage. Maybe self sabotage has become a habit. Maybe it has become an addiction. The negative habits or addictions in your life may be limiting your future in many ways. The most difficult addiction to break is the addiction of being yourself.
At this workshop we will discuss self sabotage and why you do it. We will discuss addiction including your most powerful addiction, which is the addiction of being yourself. We will discuss how to begin the process of change, so that you get REAL WORLD RESULTS.
# Breaking Free from Self-Sabotage: Why We Do It and How to Stop
Have you ever found yourself on the edge of success—only to do something that completely derails your progress? Maybe you procrastinated on an important task, picked a fight with someone supportive, or convinced yourself you’re not ready… again.
If so, you’ve likely experienced self-sabotage.
It’s a silent enemy that disguises itself as laziness, fear, perfectionism, or even self-discipline. But underneath it all, self-sabotage is simply your subconscious mind trying to keep you safe—even if that safety is holding you back.
## What Is Self-Sabotage?
Self-sabotage is when you consciously or unconsciously hinder your own success. It can show up in your career, health, finances, relationships, and personal goals.
Common signs of self-sabotage include:
- Procrastination
- Negative self-talk
- Avoidance of responsibility
- Fear of failure or success
- Perfectionism
- Starting but never finishing things
It’s not that you don’t want to succeed. It’s that part of you is afraid of what success will mean.
## Why Do We Self-Sabotage?
At its root, self-sabotage is a survival mechanism. Your brain is wired to avoid pain—even the imagined pain of change, growth, or rejection. If you have unresolved emotions, limiting beliefs, or unhealed wounds from the past, your subconscious mind might perceive progress as a threat.
For example:
- If you believe you're "not good enough," your subconscious will make sure that belief stays true.
- If you fear being judged or abandoned, you might sabotage relationships that are going well.
- If you’ve never seen success modeled in your family, it might feel unfamiliar—or unsafe.
Most of the time, we don’t even realize we’re doing it.
## How to Break the Cycle
The good news? You can overcome self-sabotage. But you must be willing to dig deep and rewire your mind.
### 1. Become Aware of Your Patterns
Start noticing your behaviors. When do you procrastinate? What triggers you to give up? When do you feel the urge to “check out” or distract yourself?
Awareness is the first step to change.
### 2. Understand the Root Cause
Ask yourself: What am I afraid will happen if I succeed? or What does failing protect me from?
Self-sabotage is often tied to deeper emotional wounds—like fear of judgment, abandonment, or not being lovable. Healing those patterns can set you free.
### 3. Reprogram Your Mind
Your brain works like software. If you’ve been running old scripts of “I’m not enough” or “I always mess things up,” it’s time for an update.
Tools like NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), coaching, hypnosis, or emotional clearing techniques can help you shift your internal programming quickly and permanently.
### 4. Create a New Identity
Instead of trying to “fix” your sabotage habits, start focusing on who you want to become. When your identity shifts, your habits follow.
Say to yourself daily:
- “I follow through on what matters.”
- “I deserve success and joy.”
- “I am safe to grow and thrive.”
### 5. Build a Supportive Environment
Success loves company. Surround yourself with people who believe in your potential—and call you out when you’re slipping into old patterns.
Coaching communities, accountability groups, and mentors are powerful tools for staying on track.
