We are two travel enthusiasts from Christchurch who are looking for like-minded people to join us on adventures around New Zealand and abroad.
These adventures will invariably include at least one of the following activities: walking, tramping, cycling, sight seeing, eating and drinking good food and wine and always fun times! If you wish to find fellow travel companions with some common interests then you have definitely landed on the right site. Stewart Island is a true natureâs paradise and offers a special experience - a glimpse into a simpler, slower lifestyle, in rhythm with the sea and the tides. 85% of the islandâs 1570 square kilometres is a National Park â Rakiura National Park. Stewart Island also has a Dark Sky Sanctuary accreditation by the International Dark Sky Association. Whether you want to enjoy the land, sea and night-scapes, view the wildlife, walk, boat, fish, dive, kayak, hunt or just relax - a Stewart Island holiday is an experience that you will treasure for ever and a must-do experience.
DAY 1 - BLUFF TO STEWART ISLANDâ´ď¸
Your journey starts in Bluff where you will board the Ferry to Stewart Island*. This afternoon exploreenjouy a Vilalge and Bays Tour of Oban. Join our friendly local guides on a comfortable mini-bus tour as they share their in-depth knowledge of the islandâs unique environment and heritage. With plenty of opportunities to step off the bus for short walks and photo stops, youâll fully immerse yourself in the wonders of this remarkable place. Tour highlights include a visit to Lee Bay (the gateway to the Rakiura National Park) and Observation Rock, which has stunning views of Paterson Inlet.
DAY 2 - ULVA ISLAND EXPLORER TOUR & WILD KIWI ENCOUNTERđ§
Your skipper and nature guide provide detailed commentary throughout the cruise and are happy to answer any questions. While on board, keep a lookout for fur seals, penguins and other wildlife, as sightings are common. Then disembark at Ulva Island for a 45-minute guided walk with a specialist nature guide. If there is enough interest we will arrange a 2nd transfer lback to Oban to allwo more free time on Ulva Island.
This is an absolute highlight to view our special Kiwi's in the wild! Meet us approximately half an hour after sunset.
Then we make the short road journey to the private land where one of our passionate experienced kiwi guides will take you to the favoured areas of these rare iconic birds, where you can quietly spy these native birds while they reveal their quirky personalities.
You can listen for Kiwi & Morepork off in the distance and on a clear night you can marvel at the clear starry night above. On a rare occasion an Aurora Australis has even been seen.
DAY 3 - GREAT WALK RAIKIURA TRACKđŁ
Fully Guided 1/2 day Freedom Walk
Enjoy a fully guided walk on one of the most popular coastal and native bush walks on Stewart Island. Water taxi to Port William, site of early Maori settlement, before continuing on to beautiful Maori beach. Make our way to Lee Bay via Little River, a stunning tidal river mouth, overhanging with Rata trees. Along the coast lookout for a plethora of birdlife, such as, Mutton birds (Sooty Shearwaters), Shags, Bullerâs Molly-mawks, Cape Pigeons, and little Blue Penguins. In the native bush you may see and hear Bellbirds, Tui, Fantails, Parakeets, Shining Cuckoos, Grey Warblers, Kaka and Tomtits and more. Walking time: duration 4-5 hours including Water Taxi.
This walk is day one of the Rakiura Track and is roughly 10km long (with many steps and a bit of rock hopping hear and there). Package includes Department of Conservation concession fees.
DAY 4 - STEWART ISLAND TO BLUFFâ´ď¸
Today it is time to depart this paradise island and return to real life. As part of your unforgettable Stewart Island adventure, this year we have inlcuded the quick and scenic flight to Invercargill. In just 20 minutes, youâll soar over the stunning Foveaux Strait, taking in sweeping views of rugged coastlines and shimmering seas. Itâs the perfect, hassle-free way to wrap up your island escape and continue your Southland journey with ease.
