Welcome to the Christchurch Game Developers Meetup, with news from around New Zealand!

6:30 PM - Balancing Business and Art
This month's presentation is a preview of Ben Maher's NZGDC talk, "Balancing Business and Art”, scheduled for 4:50 PM on Friday 18th October.

"I want to prove that a savvy business sense can mix with the soul of an indie developer. How do you express your creativity while nurturing your business? How do you keep the lights on while being uncompromising in your vision?

I hope to share some tips and tricks from industry veterans and my own personal experience to try and reconcile these two seemingly-exclusive mindsets."

Ben Maher is a Game Designer here at CerebralFix and his talk will share his experiences and insights from over a decade working in games: "We often build an image of people in our heads based on their job descriptor or labels like "creative." In my talk "Balancing Business and Art" I attempt to deconstruct this image and show that the skills we use in one area of game development are applicable in all areas of game development, and offer tips on how we can build a diverse skillset that we can use in any situation."
