6:15 PM - KICK OFF
Welcome to the Christchurch Game Developers Meetup, with news from around New Zealand!
6:30 PM - Designing for Mixed Reality
Mixed Reality (MR) is the next in a long line of shiny new gaming mediums, now possible with the Quest 3, Apple Vision Pro and similar devices. MR or spatial gaming sits between VR and AR. We’ve been building our first MR title Game Night for close to a year now and will share our experiences. I’ll attempt to answer all your burning MR questions…
> Why should I care about MR?
> What makes MR compelling for players?
> Can I (or should I) port my game to MR?
> What are the unique challenges of designing for MR?
Come along to find out more about this new MR space, or pick up some tips and tricks if you’re already working with it.
Steven Linton founded Fantail Games, Christchurch in late 2023 to create Mixed Reality games for Quest and other HMDs. Our games show that MR can be used to create virtually real games that deepen your real world connections with your environment and your friends/family.
Steven has always has a passion for MR gaming since he made one back in 2002. While waiting for the tech to catch up with the vision, he cofounded CerebralFix and built up 15+ years of experience in the work for hire game development space. He has worked on 40+ games with clients including Disney, Universal, EA, Hasbro, GSN, and JamCity to name a few. He has worked across many roles including coding design, producing, sales there's even a little of his "art" and audio that slipped through the cracks into some games.
7:30 PM - PIZZA
Enjoy some refreshments (AKA pizza) and catch up with/meet other game dev enthusiasts.
Event Photography Notice: The CGDA occasionally takes photos and/or videos at our events for promotional purposes. If you would prefer not to have your image recorded for marketing purposes, please make your wishes known to the photographer, and/or reach out to a committee member, and we will accommodate your request. Thank you!
