What we’re about

This group is for ALL PEOPLE who are trying to heal from christian church experiences that have caused fear, harm, or trauma for them. Our group is led by a licensed counselor and staff member at Floris UMC, Megan, to ensure all discussions are handled with care and a safe space is facilitated.

We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday every month from 6:00-7:30 pm at Tilly Kitchen in Chantilly. Our table has a blue Spiritual Recovery Community (SRC) sign for visibility so you know right where to go when you arrive (as we recognize new situations can be overwhelming).

We rotate through discussion topics that we have found consistently have emotional weight that needs to be processed such as:

  • Reading the bible and if it can be used literally
  • Conflicts between different church denominations
  • How to engage with family members of differing theology
  • Coping with politics and current events
  • Sexuality, gender, and the church
  • Purity culture and shame
  • Our responsibility to take care of the environment
  • Rigid/black-and-white thinking pattens that keep us stuck

We discuss tough topics that often require a lot of vulnerability to openly talk about. Because of this, we ask that all participants come with an open-mind, non-judgmental attitude, and not coming to change others but rather to listen to other people's experiences.
