7 Principles for Making Marriages Work

Introduction
This seminar is divided into 7 one-hour sessions. Content is based upon two widely used evidence-based approaches to lasting marriages. They are widely adapted in many evidence-based settings.

1. "Seven Principles for Making Marriages Work" by John Gottman, PhD.
   Decades of studies from his marriage lab predicted factors leading to divorce with 91 % accuracy. He scientifically concluded that " a long-term committed relationship with another human remains the greatest gift life can offer".
2. The Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach teaches us to start with yourself through - mindfulness and awareness of your "self-as-context" to any relational challenge. This seminar will cover major ACT concepts, including DRAIN in a relationship, acceptance, emotional & cognitive defusion, valuing, compassion and forgiveness as the relationship moves forward.
