EVENT POSTPONED DUE TO HEAT!!! Salvation Mountain, Slab City and East Jesus!

Details

DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT, (100 DEGREES), I AM POSTPONING THIS EVENT UNTIL A BREAK IN THE WEATHER HAPPENS!!
THE TEMECULA ROD RUN IS THIS WEEKEND, SO GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY IT!?

Let's have a play-day out in the Salton Sea area!! 1st we'll visit Salvation Mountain, which is listed by Congress as a "Nation Treasure"!

Salvation Mountain is located in the lower desert of Southern California in Imperial County just east of the Salton Sea and about a hour and a half from Palm Springs. Salvation Mountain is Leonard's tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message: "God Is Love." Leonard's passion has lovingly created this brilliant "outsider art " masterpiece resplendent with not only biblical and religious scripture such as the Lord's Prayer, John 3:16, and the Sinner's Prayer, but also including flowers, trees, waterfalls, suns, bluebirds, and many other fascinating and colorful objects. Salvation Mountain must be seen to be fully appreciated as those who have made the journey will attest. Its 50 foot height and 150 foot breadth is made totally of local adobe clay and donated paint and is truly unique in the United States and probably the world. From its Sea of Galilee at the bottom, to the big red heart in the middle, to the cross at the very top, the reoccurring theme of "Love" is everywhere at Salvation Mountain.

After taking in the beauty of the mountain and the photo ops it offers, we will go investigate the awesome artwork around Slab City. Some of it is just amazing in detail and size and there are also ones made of metal that you can climb on and around.

Once we have admired the stunning work of the locals, we will head over to East Jesus! What is that you ask? Picture Knotts Berry farm meets Monty Python in the sketchy desert!! There are so many things to climb on, play with and of course the butter knife throwing arena....LOL.
Be careful on the world's largest teeter-totter.....Ha.

Once we are done exploring the madness in Niland, those who have had their fill can drive back home. OR...you can camp out with us at Arroyo Salado campsite. We have purposely picked a New Moon weekend, so that we can enjoy the star filled night! No water or electricity, only a couple of well maintained vaulted restrooms for luxury. Sit around the bonfire and cook your dinner and enjoy your favorite beverage as the night winds down.

We will have a brief message in the morning with some worship music and time for breakfast before we either take a short hike or head home.
Just a fantastic weekend in SoCal!

This is a self contained outing and each person will be responsible for their own water and food.
If not camping.... Bring at least 3L of water, lunch and snacks. There are a couple of restaurants on the way back to town for dinner options.
For clothing, bring several layers of comfortable, knock-around outdoor clothes and at least a jacket. Comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Bring sunscreen and a hat/visor.
If camping (yea!) also bring at least 1 gallon of water in a couple of containers, food for lunch, dinner and breakfast. Of course, snacks for when we are out adventuring. Bring you own camping gear,(tent, cushion, sleeping bag), including a headlamp (recommended) or flashlight with NEW batteries. Also, fully charge your phone and bring a power bank, if you have one. There is very little to no signal where we are camping....FYI.
A warm coat with hat and gloves will make the night/early morning more comfortable.
We will be bringing firewood and some utensils for cooking, but most cooking will be over the open fire.

Sorry, no children or dogs on this one....

We will meet up for caravan and carpooling at the Rancho Church park and ride area in the East end of the parking lot.
Rain the day of or heavy rain prior to the weekend will cancel event. Check back on Friday the 5th for updates
