Hi everyone, as we begin to ramp up some group activities, I thought it would be good to schedule a service event. So, let's meet up outside the Houston Food Bank, where HFB volunteers will fill up our cars with groceries, and we then each go on to deliver food in our own cars to seniors and others in need of assistance who may not be able to get to a local pantry. The group, CrowdSource Rescue, has a history of dispatching volunteers to help rescue those stranded by hurricanes, and they are now focused on reaching out to those stuck at home due to COVID. I've done multiple assignments with them and it's a great group. Very minimal social contact, but VERY appreciative recipients.

WHAT TO DO FIRST:
Go to crowdsourcerescue.com, click on the red COVID response ribbon, then I Can Help. From there, you'll need to register as a Volunteer and agree to their terms and take their 15 minute training course. They take COVID very seriously and volunteers do still have to wear masks as you first pick up your food from the Food Bank and as you deliver food.

HOW IT WORKS:
On Friday night prior to 8 pm or prior to Saturday by say 9 am, you would go to the Zello App (fully explained in their training), and type in the Food Ticket numbers (for your first time, 3-5 deliveries is a good goal depending on how much time you have; i would plan that 3 deliveries would take about an hour) you want to work, which you would find on the CrowdSource website. If you take their training, this all will make sense. Really, it will.

ON SATURDAY AT 11 AM:
I'll be parked in my Grey Jetta on the curb of Portwall St before you get to the Food Bank. I'll be easy to find. From there, we will all pull up and a Food Bank volunteer will fill up your trunk with food. You don't have to leave your car! From there, you will deliver food in your own car to your tickets. PS If you are running early or late, you don't have to wait for me. You are essentially volunteering as yourself, not as a group.

I'm happy to answer any questions you have here and their website is very helpful. They currently have over 570 open tickets or families in need of food. The need ranges south in League City, all throughout the beltway, even all the way up north to Porter. Even if just a few of us can go out, it can make a huge difference! And it is safe, you leave the food on their porch, take a picture, knock on their door and step back. They're expecting you, so it usually goes smoothly. Hope folks can make it out! And the other cool part is that once you're registered, you can volunteer any time you like, you don't have to wait for a Meetup event.
