Church of the East and West
Details
The Church of the East & West is a weekly online interfaith gathering where people come together to explore sacred and wisdom texts from Eastern and Western traditions in a spirit of respect, curiosity, and shared humanity.
This is not a service, sermon, or debate.
No belief, background, or prior knowledge is required.
Each meeting follows a consistent, gentle rhythm (about 60 minutes):
- Welcome & Grounding
A brief opening to orient the group. - Context for the Text
One or more participant(s) introduces the tradition and text(s) for the week. Participants may share what inspires them and guide the session as well in a non-formal manner. - Reading
Short excerpts are read. Multiple voices may be heard. - Silence and Listening to Each Other
Listening to voice and personal interpretations are shared - Open Reflection
Participants may share reflections, questions, or insights from their own experience. Speaking is optional; listening is always welcome. - Closing
A brief closing moment of gratitude and reminders for the next gathering.
There is no preaching, no pressure, and we do encourage open dialogue.
Participants should come with:
- Curiosity and respect for other cultures
- An open mind
- A willingness to listen
Please be respectful:
- Speak from personal experience (“I” statements)
- No proselytizing or debating
- No correcting others’ beliefs
- Passing or staying silent is always okay
- Cameras on or off—your choice
This is a space for humility, not authority.
