Deep Dive: E.T. Hurley Etchings

Details
Centered around the work of Cincinnati native E.T. Hurley, who is renowned for his evocative etchings of local landmarks, this event dives into the fascinating process behind creating art with etched copper plates.
Gallery staff will give a short introduction to Hurley’s life and his role in American printmaking, followed by a step-by-step look at how etchings are made, from prepping the plate to pulling the final print. Then we’ll break out jeweler’s loupes to get an up-close view of both copper plates and a broad selection of finished etchings. Along the way, we’ll chat about how etching stacks up against other art forms like drawing and lithography, and what sets this technique apart. Light snacks and drinks will be available.
