The Data Labyrinth: A Journey Through Data Literacy Initiatives

Details
Data literacy enables one to read, comprehend, create, and communicate data as meaningful information. This interactive talk will provide a data literacy framework, explore the positive impacts of increased data literacy, and showcase practical examples of data literacy initiatives. At Duo, we've observed a cultural shift toward self service analytics and proactive data engagement, such as including data in objective setting and feature development, as well as collaborations with data science for in depth data investigations. To cultivate data literacy, we've created and implemented initiatives like Data Pulse Check surveys, Data Deep Dives, and an online course, and team showcases, all aimed at enhancing decision making and fostering a data driven culture. These efforts contribute to a transformation where data is not just accessible but actionable, turning participants into informed decision makers and leaders.
This session will involve some informal small group discussion, but you don’t have to be a data practitioner to participate. While the talk examples will center around data literacy initiatives, there are applications from data literacy to knowledge sharing across roles. This talk will be presented by Elizabeth Gilbert, Product Data Scientist at Duo.
Session will take place 4-5pm, followed by networking 5-6pm. Refreshments will be provided. Meetups are hosted the third Wednesday of each month at Union Hall in OTR and feature subject matter experts and enthusiasts in the fields of data and analytics.
