Data Science in Motion: Advanced Techniques for IoT Time-Series Analysis

Details
Why should your apps have all the fun? You can use your phone’s sensor data, too!
In this talk, we’ll build up a live demo of streaming and analyzing sensor data in real time. You’ll see how to pull sensor readings from your own phone via REST API (using the phyphox app), then explore practical techniques for working with time-series data: identifying repeated motifs, curating and labeling useful signals, matching new data to labels with multiple approaches, and finally, bringing it all together in a live-streaming plot that annotates detected signals of interest.
Our presenter tonight is Greg Wilson, PhD, an aerospace engineer-turned data scientist in the aerospace performance materials manufacturing space. His work spans the full data lifecycle, from architecting and troubleshooting connections between legacy systems and the cloud, to data modeling, applied statistics, computer vision, LLM applications, BI, machine learning, and sensor analytics, always grounded in the messy physical realities behind the numbers. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University, and a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from TU Delft, with more than 15 years of aerospace and manufacturing experience at Alcoa, GE Aerospace, and, presently, Precision Castparts Corp.
