πŸ“’ Cincinnati Software Craftsmanship welcomes Orville Bennett! πŸ“’

πŸ’¬ TALK DESCRIPTION πŸ’¬

Throughout this presentation I'll share:

  • WHY I wanted to convert a simple PHP mailer script into a full-fledged rust application (a language I did not know), instead of making a quick update.
  • HOW I made it happen, complete with tests and CI/CD integration.

It will give the briefest of introductions to the Rust language and touch on topics such as memory-safety, type-safety, unit tests and continuous integration.

At the end I'll give my opinion on whether this was a worthwhile project, given the (considerable) time taken, and the (simple) use-case. But I look forward to hearing yours as well.

πŸ‘‹ ABOUT ORVILLE πŸ‘‹

Orville Bennett is a follower of Christ, father and recovering research scientist who through prayer, persistence (and a lot of reading) pivoted into the role of a Web Developer. He has 1 wife, 6 kids, 1 goat and 23 chickens, enjoys long walks on the beach, bicycle rides at noon and converting code from X programming language to rust. These days he takes on contract positions through his consultancy - ORB IT Solutions LLC - when he's not working full time as a Senior Full Stack Engineer.
