DOG DAY AFTERNOON @ IFI (8:30pm) - "Late Late" Breakfast
Details
Hi everyone,
Ho, ho, hope you’ve having a good week - these weeks leading up to Christmas can be manic, so a ‘me treat’ to the cinema might be just what you need!
The IFI have released their Schedule for Friday, so let’s go to see a 50th Anniversary Special rerelease - if I’ve ever seen this movie, I’ve forgotten - DOG DAY AFTERNOON in Cinema 2 at 8:30pm. Nothing says Christmas like screaming "Attica! Attica!".
We will then have dinner beforehand in the IFI Cafe Bar at 6:30pm. Dinner is now closed for numbers. If you wish to join a Waitlist, please PM directly (Sueanne) to be included if any spots open up.
DOG DAY AFTERNOON (124 mins)
Dog Day Afternoon | Modern Trailer | HBO Max
“Re-released on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary, Dog Day Afternoon recounts the true story of an attempted bank robbery in Brooklyn, 1972. Sonny (Al Pacino, reuniting with his Serpico director) and Sal (the great John Cazale) go ahead as planned with their heist after being abandoned by the third member of their gang. Things immediately go wrong as the bank is almost empty of cash and a hostage situation develops very quickly. In the course of negotiations, it comes out that Sonny’s motive was to secure enough money to pay for the sexual reassignment surgery of his lover Leon (Chris Sarandon). Groundbreaking at the time for its thoughtful and sympathetic consideration of gender and sexuality, though of its time when viewed through a contemporary lens, Dog Day Afternoon is a gripping, funny, and moving film, a classic of 1970s Hollywood.”
Dining: Note that they do not split bills there so it’s CASH ONLY again for this one, and there’s a 12.5% service charge on large table bookings.
