The New York City premiere of Hurricane Season, by Elisa Miller, is this Sunday 12/3, at the Museum of the Moving Image.
One of the most anticipated films from Mexico this year, it is based on the award-winning book by Fernanda Melchor, and reckons with Mexican fairy tales and the crisis of femicide. (New York Times review of the book: A Mexican Novel Conjures a Violent World Tinged With Beauty)
Dir. Elisa Miller. Mexico, 2023. 112 min.
In Spanish with English subtitles. Hurricane season is coming on strong. Four souls in search of redemption confront the relentless storm of their destiny in a world filled with violence instead of love. From Elisa Miller (who won the Golden Palm at Cannes for best short film) and based on the brilliant and intense novel by Fernanda Melchor, Hurricane Season is a powerful and stunning film, with an impressive ensemble cast and impeccable cinematography by María Secco.
