In May 2025, Cinema Mentiré launched Daring to Dare, a retrospective of trailblazing Argentinian filmmaker María Luisa Bemberg (1922-1995) to celebrate her extraordinary legacy on the 30th anniversary of her passing. The programme opened at Ciné Lumière and then toured Bath, Belfast, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London (again), and Oxford.
After a year-long journey across the UK, we return to London for the final chapter with a very special wrap-up of the series at The Garden Cinema!
MISS MARY (1986, 102min.)
📆 Tuesday, 26 May, at 6.00pm
Julie Christie is Miss Mary, an English governess who travels to Argentina in the late 1930s to raise the children of an aristocratic and chaotic family.
These screenings form part of a wider season commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Argentine coup, running from 8 May to 19 June at The Garden Cinema. The programme brings together classic thrillers, offbeat comedies and documentaries, accompanied by Q&As and introductions that explore how Argentine society has grappled with the aftermath of the coup in the 5 decades that followed.
Check it out also the screening of NOBODY'S WIFE on 21 May, a revolutionary film following the journey of Leonor after an unpleasant discovery that puts her life upside down.
