Dear Tropicalistas,

Cinema Tropical and the 27th Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival of New York are thrilled to announce the return of the popular series Music+Film: Brazil, taking place August 30-September 2, 2023 at the Village East Cinema in New York, in person for the first time since 2019!

This year’s exciting lineup, programmed by Mary Jane Marcasiano, celebrates the legends of Bossa Nova, those we might recognize and those we might discover for the first time.

Please join us for the first film on August 30, MIÚCHA, THE VOICE OF BOSSA NOVA!

"Miúcha, a Voz da Bossa Nova" is a gripping documentary about how the talented musician Miúcha and her accomplishments were overshadowed in the male-dominated world of Bossa Nova.

About the film:
The Voice of Bossa Nova tells the story of the renowned Brazilian singer through her personal letters, audio diaries, home movies, and expressive watercolor drawings. She was known as the sister of Chico Buarque, the pupil of Vinicius de Moraes, the second wife of João Gilberto, the musical partner of Antônio Carlos Jobim, and the vocal accompaniment to Stan Getz’s saxophone. But Miúcha’s vibrant spirit couldn’t be held back, even as she struggled to find her own voice in a man’s world. She earned unprecedented success, becoming a symbol of female resilience and a musical legend forever.
