January 2026 CINLUG Meeting -- New Generation Of Command-Line Tools
Details
Are you still using 'grep', 'find', 'less', 'cat', and 'ls'? While these classic Linux core utilities have served us well for decades, the open source world has been busy creating powerful, modern alternatives that offer enhanced features, speed, and user experience.
Join us at Central INdiana Linux User Group’s (CINLUG’s) January meeting where Mike Slattery[1] will introduce you to a new generation of command-line tools! He’ll demonstrate how utilities like 'rg' (ripgrep), 'fzf' (fuzzy finder), 'fd' (a faster 'find'), 'bat' (a 'cat' / 'less' clone), 'eza' (a modern 'ls'), and others can improve your daily workflow. Discover their advanced features, improved syntax, and how they integrate into your existing shell environment and scripts!
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 7th at 18:30 (6:30 PM) EST.
CINLUG thanks Moser Consulting for hosting our meetings at their facility. (There will be a phone number at the entrance to call to be let into the building.) The meeting will be simultaneously broadcast over this Jitsi Meet URL for those who cannot attend in person. (Though in-person attendance is encouraged. *After the meeting, we plan to go to the nearby Red Robin restaurant for drinks and camaraderie! Plan to `make it a night`!*)
CINLUG meetings are the 1st Wednesday of every month, so please block that night off in your calendar to keep it available. You are also encouraged to sign up for our mailing lists and to follow us on our various social media sites[2] to receive announcements and participate in discussions.
