Sunday Celebration! Rescued from Lyme Disease Through Alternative Healing Methods w/Barbara Ann Veronica Caruso

Barbara was a sensitive child, yet her crying was often so annoying she ended with her nickname coined! ?!! The Cry Baby” !!! Her Dad was particularly intolerant of this crying and hence, he pulled away, which was a confusing experience for such a young child. This distance resulted in her believing her Dad just did not like her which took years of therapy to undue until mediumship then reconnected them 50 years later!.. Barbara did not have any childhood spiritual experiences, in fact, it was just the opposite. She feared the presence of ghosts from her very youngest of memories and of course, a dark bedroom was not of any help when sleeping on the third floor of an old Philadelphia 1800’s Historic Home. Raised Catholic and learning about the Holy Ghost at age 6 did not help her in her fears of ghosts yet she ends up at age 60, talking to the same ghosts that were so spooky to her during her younger years!
When her Grandmother died, she was just 13. Her Grandmother used to live in her house, yet she sensed her presence in the room during the actual funeral . Barbara did not attend the funeral (due to her fears of something she did not quite understand, about death and ghosts). Barbara begged her Mom to let her stay home during the viewing/funeral. Her Mother relented but Barbara, out of fears of what would happen at a funeral as it was her very first, she just was too scared to even attend the church service. Her mom relented and allowed Barbara to stay home. Ironically while at home and all alone with her fears, she was sitting on her Grandmother’s bed, when her Grandmom came to visit her in a connection not quite as a vision but a true sense of her being there. This experience shook Barbara to the core of her fears. See was not really understanding what was happening with these senses of “knowing” that her Grandmom was right there with her. Barbara then had nightmares after that experience which resulted in her having then to sleep in her parent’s room snuggled at the end of their bed at age 13, she recalls how humiliating it was for her . Yet, she never told anyone, nor her parents, exactly what was happening. All her family just thought she was grieving from the loss of her Grandmom when it was an early clue of what was to come to be opened inside of Barbara, a gift she was not ready to accept when so afraid of the thought of spirits or ghosts. Barbara sensed her Grandmom’s spirit right next to her…but never let it be known she had felt her spirit presence when all the family were at the funeral and Barbara buried this so deep to cope. Yet those nightmares persisted.
As Barbara matured in her teens, she seemed to know and understand people’s actions and behaviors that others didn’t seem to pick up or understand. She kept most of those feelings to herself. Then when she started nursing school, those extra senses and insights were acknowledged by one of her nursing instructors! Her instructor said, “you have a gift for understanding people’s emotions and psychological needs”, do not hesitate to use it. Yet, she had others who did not understand so she learned to lead a secret life of her gifts being hidden.
After that Barbara learned to hide most of any of these insights and it took a full 40 years before she ever opened the door again to these gifts. These gifts then would surface to help heal others in a way Barbara could never have ever imagined! It was only after Barbara met an “animal communicator” did she begin to understand there were ways to use these extra senses, and it was not to hide them. Barbara was told by this medium, who connected her back to her Dad after years of feeling she was just not loved, that she too had the mediumship gift. Hence, this was her first step in seeking out how to study psychic development and mediumship. Ironically, Barbara took a class on a meet-up called “are you gifted” which started her in being connected to others with these gifts and Barbara discovered she was gifted in many ways, yet mediumship was her strongest. Barbara has been studying mediumship at Lily Dale for 5 years and teaching at Journey (and at other Reiki practices) for the past two years. Today she will speak about her many challenges as a gifted child and an adult who had to find a way to allow these gifts to be opened in order to help others with healings both spiritually and from past traumas.
BIO:

Catholic School was a difficult adjustment for a sensitive child who excelled in the public-school Kindergarten and now was punished by nuns for being so outgoing. Barbara had her experience of being hit on the knuckles, and that was the first ever time she learned that being herself was not always going to be accepted. Going to Catholic High School as a good experience as she joined the Orchestra and played classical percussion at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, She has considered college for music but then was told at age 15, due to not being able to get beyond a D in Algebra or Geometry, that she was not college material, yet she went onto nursing school where very little math was needed for that profession. She did not listen to those educators who put her in a pigeonhole and pursed her advanced degrees taking her required Math Courses in College and Graduate School as Pass/Fail thereby still being able to complete the requirements. Nursing school helped her learn about life and death in a way she could not have predicted would return to her later in her life as a gift of helping people cross over and or connect to their loved one.
Barbara has an RN, a BS in Sociology, a M,ED in Health Education from Temple and a PhD in Educational Research from University of Penn.

She was a College Professor for 5 years and a Director of HIV Programs when teaching at Drexel Medical School (yet the demands of publications and research grants were very stressful) ! After a long battle with Lyme, she stopped her academic demands and went back to being a RN.
Barbara is still working as a RN at age 74, swims 3 x a week, has 4 Grandchildren and 3 Adult Children and a dog! She loves the continuous learning she experiences through her “spiritual awakening”. Barbara has been a member of Circles for 5 years and has taught classes here to inspire others as well to find their gifts and the joy and rewards that a spiritual awakening can bring into one’s life no matter what age.
She will discuss her spiritual journey in her presentation today.
