What we’re about
Circlesinging is a form of improvisational community singing. We draw on a variety of musical traditions, and rather than learning pre-written music – we make it up in the moment!
Circlesinging is all about letting our voices flow naturally and learning to trust our instincts. If you're a beginning singer, welcome! This is a really fun and low-stakes way to start playing more with your voice. If you're an experienced singer, welcome! We'll offer you plenty of chances to challenge and inspire your voice.
We'll build songs using small snippets of rhythm, melody, and harmony, creating spontaneous and fun music unique to that group on that particular day. It's all the joy of singing in a big group, with none of the hassle of reading music or trying to memorize complex parts!
Some quick videos to give you an idea of what it's like:
- This great video showcasing the Chicago Circlesinging community is a wonderful overview of the experience! (We're located in Portland, ME though! 😄)
- A beautiful video that gives a sense of the experience, from our friends Sofia & Nick
All ages and singers welcome!
