Language Politics in India: Hindi, Regional Languages & the National Education Policy (NEP)
India is one of the world's most linguistically diverse nations, with hundreds of languages and dialects shaping its culture, identity, education, and governance. Language is more than a means of communication—it reflects heritage, regional identity, and plays a vital role in national integration and public life.
The implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, discussions surrounding the three-language formula, the role of Hindi, and the importance of regional languages have generated significant public debate. While many support multilingual education for improved learning outcomes and stronger national connectivity, others emphasize the importance of mother-tongue education, linguistic diversity, state autonomy, and the preservation of regional identities.
Citizen Setu invites students, teachers, parents, policymakers, education professionals, linguists, researchers, civil service aspirants, journalists, and citizens from across India to participate in a balanced, respectful, and non-partisan discussion on one of India's most important educational and constitutional issues.
The session will explore multiple perspectives through constitutional provisions, educational research, judicial developments, and policy challenges while encouraging informed civic participation. Participants will also engage in live opinion polls, an interactive Q&A session, a Myth vs Fact discussion, an open public forum, and experience sharing.
