Data Science Processes

Abstract:
Although still fairly young, "data science" has quickly matured into the "sexiest job of the 21st century". Due to the range of its potential applications, it has been sought after by many businesses - often producing substantial gains.

But why is it only "often"? Why does it not have universal benefit? One explanation - which will be explored in this talk - is the lack of integration of data science outcomes with business processes. In fact, many data science curricula and study plans do not cover business processes as a key learning.

Hence, this talk will introduce processes, associated terms, example data science applications, and a practical example that can be applied by all participants.

Bio:
Dr Craig Savage has worked in a number of technical fields, including rocket science and bringing sight to the blind. He has experience in Credit Risk at NAB and ANZ, and is currently an independent consultant. His professional interests include data analysis, data visualisation and, more importantly, driving evidence-based decisions and actions.
