Channel Islands Sailing Holiday
Details
What's the plan?
Departing Hamble Friday evening 26th June in a Beneteau Oceanis 37, with return back to Hamble and disembarkation the following Friday morning - 3rd July.
There will be an initial Channel crossing to Guernsey, spending the day of arrival and the whole following day there, then onto either Sark or Herm for a short visit, followed by Jersey, spending a whole day there too, then onto Alderney, before returning home. There will still be adequate time to make proper visits ashore on Sark or Herm, and Alderney, although not time to spend a whole day there.
The islands are very attractive, and quite quaint in some parts. Each one is different with some having tiny populations. Sark and Herm don't allow cars, and Sark was the last place in Europe to have a feudal system of government, which only ended in 2008. All the islands have lots of sandy beaches, often with hardly anyone else around.
The Channel Islands were invaded by Nazi Germany in WWII, and so were the only parts of the British Isles to be occupied. Consequently there are still numerous fortifications and gun emplacements, and also the military underground hospitals on Jersey and Guernsey, which remain as a reminder of those days.
Worth mentioning is that on recent cross-Channel trips we've been able to see more dolphins and even tuna, which have started to become more regular visitors to UK waters. This is an amazing trip - don't miss out!
