Without Dionysus, the myths unravel—the labyrinth falls silent, Zeus’s birth is forgotten, and Theseus never finds his way out. Apollo’s lyre grows quiet, Ariadne drops her thread, and even Heracles cannot lift the bull. Europa is never carried across the sea, Icarus falls without song, and the gods themselves grow restless with thirst. What are stories without their spirit? What are gods without their god of wine? This week, we restore the missing magic with pours from Crete and Macedonia—where the wine flows, and the myths finally make sense.
Alpha Estate Turtles Vineyard Malagouzia Macedonia Greece 2023 100% Malaguzia. Vibrant and aromatic nose of rose petals, honeysuckle, and sweet spice, layered with melon, lychee, and a hint of citrus zest. On the palate, it is rounded and textured, showing primary flavors of stone fruit and exotic melon, along with secondary notes of subtle spice and a faint herbal edge of rosemary.
Lyrarakis Thrapsathiri Armi Crete Greece 2021 100% Thrapsathiri. (THRAHP-sah-THEE-ree) Expressive nose of citrus blossom, white peach, and apricot, lifted by hints of honeysuckle, orange zest, and subtle floral herbs typical of the variety. On the palate, it is dry yet vibrant, offering bright primary flavors of lemon, tangerine, and ripe orchard fruits, layered with secondary notes of toasted almond, subtle spice, and a delicate minerality that speaks to Crete’s volcanic soils
Lyrarakis Psarades Dafni Crete Greece 2022 100% Dafni. The Dafni grape gets its name from the herb laurel, which is called "Dafni" in Greek. Bright yellow color. Aromas of herbs such as laurel and rosemary with notes of citrus flower and fruit, typical for the variety. Elegant with a refreshing mouthfeel and an intense aromatic aftertaste.
Kir-Yianni Ramnista Naoussa Xinomavro Macedonia Greece 2020 100% Xinomavro. Aromas of red cherries, roses, greenery, vanilla bean, raspberry, earthiness, and cinnamon bark. The palate departs with black, candied cherries, raspberries, black tea, dried herbs, coconut, cinnamon spice, coco, with softer tones of coffee, nutmeg, dried blackberry, and allspice. There is a light note of cream from the malolactic fermentation that softens the acidity just a little.
