CivicTechWR Hacknight #68: Cycling Guide with Amy Colford and Mark Connolly
Details
Today we'll be welcoming the team behind Cycling Guide!
Cycling Guide is a free mobile app for iPhone and Android. It provides the best available low-stress, cycling-friendly routes to where people want to go. It's aimed at people who would like to cycle more, but feel like they lack the experience, knowledge, or confidence to do so comfortably. In this presentation we'll show how we created the app in Waterloo Region, and how it delivers low-stress routes based on the Level of Traffic Stress (LTS) framework.
We will be joined by Amy Colford and Mark Connolly:
Amy Colford is the Engineering Director at Cycling Guide Foundation. She jump-started her career by being a founder and CTO of ReadyPass, a public transit focused startup working on ticketing and route optimization for the city of Fredericton. Amy has a wide range of technical capabilities, handling the development of the software stack from the Cycling Guide mobile app to the server infrastructure needed to facilitate it. When not developing software, Amy is a strong accessibility advocate. This has been a lifelong passion for her, and she is happy to share her expertises with everyone.
Mark Connolly is the Executive Director and design lead at Cycling Guide Foundation. He's also co-founder and co-chair of Fluxible, Canada’s UX festival. Mark has led design teams, initiatives, and projects in a variety of design contexts. He has taught design at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University, as well as delivering numerous workshops. He profoundly enjoys cycling around Waterloo Region while testing new releases of Cycling Guide.
