If you could be reborn into another era or place, when/where - & why?

This might be a fun topic, even if it does not entirely skate by darker themes of politics, and U.S. history and culture. Also, I think doing this discussion must be contingent on how our ongoing political emergency is going. Let's plan on doing this topic unless the democracy emergency gets turned up to 11 and we feel we just cannot ignore it even for a week.

I hope not. This "when and where else would you want to live your life if you had to" topic combines a lot of Civilized Conversation's favorite themes. History. Culture. Politics. Gender and race. Economics/inequality. Even philosophy, if you think about it.

I will plug in more details of this topic idea later, and the week before the mtg look here for 5-6 background readings that might help frame our answers and maybe think about it in different ways and from different perspectives.
