How much should your ideal partner differ from you?
Details
A relationship topic! CivCon does topics like these sometimes. Like this one (love in different life stages) and this one (love in the social media age).
We could discuss how similar a person to oneself makes for an ideal life partner using personal experience or at least wisdom gained from personal experience. Yet there probably is a lot of research out there on exactly this question. Conclusions gleaned from studies done by the major dating websites, if from nowhere else. The dating sites love to publish studies of what large numbers of couple experiments reveal about who is right for whom. General interest publications, like Psychology Today and the Atlantic, opine on issues like this as well.
The week before our 6/1 mtg, look back here for some optional background reads that address notions of how differences vs. similarities in background, socioeconomic status, education, psychology, and so forth make for lasting relationships - or not.
