Intro to Portrait Drawing

Details

You will learn how to...

  • map out and understand basic facial proportions
  • use varied, interesting line quality
  • problem solve through observing shapes and their relationships

In this workshop we will start off with a rough drawing to get an understanding of the basic proportions without a reference.

Then we will use our own face as a reference during the zoom meeting to try drawing our own portrait.

Supplies you will need:

  • soft pencil anywhere from 2B to 4B
  • regular sketchbook (See if you can set up some kind of easel alongside your computer screen. I use a book stand to improvise.)
  • rubber eraser

Also, optionally if you would like to challenge yourself before the class find a portrait reference image from a magazine, book or print and try to replicate drawing it in your sketchbook. This can be very rough, unfinished and you could also draw out a grid over top the image and copy a square at a time. It's just a warm up.

Look forward to drawing faces together!!!
