"The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton

I was shocked to find that members of our book club haven't read this coming-of-age tale, and so we're going to rectify this oversight. Written by a teenage girl who used her initials instead of her given names so the book would be taken seriously, "The Outsiders" details the conflict between two teenage gangs on the basis of their socio-economic status. It may be best remembered as the Francis Ford Coppola movie from the early 1980s that featured every future heartthrob of the time, but the book is well worth your time.
