Natsume Soseki is considered one of Japan's greatest writers and, in fact, is often considered its first modern novelist. "Kokoro" is apparently the final part of a trilogy but don't let that throw you -- it's his most famous and widely read novel in the West. It tells of the relationship between two men, one younger and one older, with the older one holding on to a secret about the death of a friend from his past. I've been reading a lot of Soseki lately in another book club I'm in, and I'm curious to see how this compares with the other books I've read.
