“It’s got dialogue that can cut glass, performances akin to tight-rope displays, and constantly shifting alliances that keep us guessing.” – Next Best Picture

A metaphysical hitman movie that also happens to be totally hilarious? Only writer-director Martin McDonagh could’ve pulled off such a trick. And pull it off he most certainly does in the cult classic IN BRUGES. Of course, he had more than a little help from a top-notch cast featuring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson—both of whom would later reteam with McDonagh for The Banshees of Inisherin—as well as Ralph Fiennes in one of the most twisted roles of his career. Farrell stars as Ray, a rookie hitman sent with his mentor, Ken (Gleeson), to the titular Flemish tourist town to cool his heels after a hit gone wrong, where they’re eventually greeted . Thus sets the stage for an immaculately crafted thriller that weaves fish-out-of-water comedy, touching romance, and intricate plot twists into a dark, beautiful, very funny tale of guilt, penance, and redemption. Oh…and did we mention it’s a Christmas movie!
