THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938)
Details
Early Technicolor extravaganza. Still the best Robin Hood movie ever made. Join Robin and his merry men as they steal from the usurpers of England's kidnapped king, Richard the Lionhearted, and give money to the poor it had been stolen from. (You could see this movie on TV, but it is not the same as seeing it the way it was made to be seen--on the big silver screen!)
Robin returns to England to find that Prince John, Richard's corrupt brother, has seized control of the crown and begun a reign of unfair taxation and death to those who oppose him. Robin recruits his "band of merry men," and the adventure begins.
A little trivia--First, there is a scene where maid Marian is riding a beautiful Palomino steed who later becomes famous as Trigger, "the smartest horse in the movies." Second, In real life, Basil Rathbone was an excellent swordsman, so when you see him swashbuckling, you know he knows what he's doing. Third, this is an early use of the Technicolor filming process. The difference between Technicolor and regular color movies would be like the difference between a Rembrandt and a child scribbling on a piece of paper.
Here is, when I was a kid, what was called a "preview."
