Appletreewick, Trollers Gill, The River Wharfe & The Best Pub In The World?
A Classic Yorkshire Dales Walk
9mls 400m of accumulated ascent.
A lovely easy paced, sociable moor & river walk visiting some lovely places you’ll recognise from the channel 5 series All Creatures Great & Small With a good pub at the finish, The Craven Arms, a Dick Whitington Story, Ancient Crux Barn and a bar that was used as the Drovers in the tv series, the pub claims to be ‘Best In The World’! If good weather we hope to ascend via Trollers Gill a bit of a scramble so be aware of this.
Trollers Gill, a limestone gorge is named after a local legend of trolls that were said to inhabit the area. These trolls were believed to roll stones down the gorge at passing humans. It’s also home to many other mythical beings: sprites, pixies, goblins, gnomes, and boggarts, as well as a huge black doglike creature known as the Barguest whose gaze could turn the unwary to stone. The Barguest is said to have inspired the legend of the Hound of the Baskervilles. So be Aware!

Dress For the weather, bring waterproofs, lunch, water, sunlotion.
