If you are going to watch the Oscars, why not watch it with a bunch of your classic movie friends in a nice 100 year-old theatre. Although I have not seen most of the nominated movies myself, I know many members of our group are very avid movie watchers and have already watched almost all of these films. This year's Oscars will repeat the host‑less format of last year's show.
According to the Revue's website the doors open at 7pm, while the Oscars start at 8pm. The event is free, but you must reserve your ticket online at the Revue's Oscar event page at Eventbrite.com (https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/the-oscars-live-at-the-revue-cinema-tickets-89662475879) (see note below about overbooking). The Revue will have a few MCs for the evening and will be quizzing us with trivia questions for prizes during the commercial breaks. A number of us went the last three year and had a good time.
We will also have a competition to see who in our group can best pick the Oscar winners. So if you are going to be joining us, please go through the list of nominees and pick who you think will win the Oscar in all twenty-four of the televised categories. You can find a visual list of the nominees at the official Oscar site or a text based list at Wikipedia; and there is a handy interactive Oscar ballot on the New York Times website which you can print off once you make your selections (links to all three sites listed below). Don't reveal who you think will win ahead of time, just print them out or write them down and bring your list with you on Sunday.
■■■ TICKET INFORMATION: ■■■
Ticket are free and available from the Revue's Oscar event page at Eventbrite.com (see link below). Be sure to get your ticket as soon as possible before they're all gone. Please note that the Revue is overbooking the event to ensure they fill the theatre. Your tickets does NOT guarantee admission, so be sure to arrive early. At 7:50pm they will let non-ticket holders in the rush line in to grab any unclaimed seats.
When RSVPing for this meetup please indicate if you have already reserved your ticket or not. If you don't have your ticket when you RSVP, please re-RSVP once you get your ticket.
As always, there is no additional meetup fee.
■■■ MEETING SPOT: ■■■
We will meet at 6:30pm outside the theatre in the ticket holder line (be sure to get in the right line as there will two lines - one line for ticket holders and a Rush line for those without tickets. You can spot the organizer (Mark) by looking for someone with messy black hair, wearing a dark navy blue (almost black) pea coat with a black messenger bag. No queue jumping - we are unable to hold a place in line for those that arrive later as it is unfair to those already in line behind us - when you arrive please join the end of the line. Inside the theatre you can spot me by looking for someone with a red Coca‑Cola™ t-shirt and an oversized brown-and-tan striped zippered sweater. Doors open at 7:00pm. We will try to grab seats in the last six or eight rows in the centre section.
■■■ AFTER THE OSCARS: ■■■
It will be quite late when the Oscars finally ends (sometime around 11:30pm) and everyone will want to be heading home. I'll join anyone who wants to grab a slice of pizza or something at McDonald's.
