Classics Without Borders: This Term’s Text — The Analects
What is your resolution for the new year?
If you are hoping to begin the year by engaging more deeply with books in the humanities, this reading group may be a good place to start.
As part of our ongoing Classics Reading Series, we will read The Analects of Confucius (논어論語) together—slowly and thoughtfully. This series has previously explored other foundational texts, and this term we turn to The Analects as a way to reflect on enduring questions of character, learning, and inner cultivation.
This group is open to both Korean and non-Korean participants, and is especially welcoming to those who have not encountered The Analects before. No prior background in philosophy or classical studies is required. What matters most is an interest in reading humanities texts and a willingness to think and reflect together.
Through close reading and discussion, this gathering aims to:
- Develop insight through classical texts
- Strengthen one’s inner life at the beginning of the new year
- Create space for thoughtful conversation across backgrounds
