don't miss Rik Van Hemmen (author of a pictorial history of boating on the Navesink) speak at the SEAS-Monmouth general meeting. open to public, no fee.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ SEAS-Monmouth Monthly General Membership Meeting: Tuesday June 25, 7:30pm, Colts Neck Inn, Rt 537, Colts Neck
Rik van Hemmen will present "How does being afloat affect human beings". This is a humorous approach to the sociology of a group of people sailing together. Rik is a son of a son of a sailor. He grew up in Holland and moved to Monmouth County in 1976 and has more or less lived there since then. For a living he provides worldwide engineering and operational consulting services and analysis on marine disasters with the world's largest ships, and the smallest boats locally, through his company in Red Bank. What he learns is that there is large scale marine and small scale marine, but it is all marine, and that is very different from how things happen on land. One of the issues he encounters almost continually is that humans do behave differently on the water and this presentation tries to explain why people, including SEAS sailors, behave differently and what it means for society as a whole. Come hear this informative and entertaining presentation, and stay for dinner afterwards if you wish, to socialize with other SEAS members.
