Contributing to Opensource Projects

Have you ever wanted to contribute to an open source project but have been hesitant or don’t know where to start? Then come to the October edition of CLEpy!!

We will start with a short presentation on how to contribute to open source projects. We will

  • use Github as our example for finding projects to contribute to.
  • go through the process of identifying contribution guidelines, how to look for issues to contribute to, and assigning an issue to yourself.
  • talk about creating your own development environment for the project.
  • submitting your first pull request.
  • discuss open source contribution etiquette.

After the presentation we will have a workshop where we will present a list of repos and issues that we believe are great first issues to tackle. Feeling a bit anxious about tackling an issue on your own? No problem, pair up with someone and tackle it together. Nick and Anurag will be available to help you with any problems that you may have when getting started.

A laptop is not required for this event but is highly encouraged.

Please note that this is an in-person meetup. We plan food and other resources based on the number of people RSVPing the meetup. If you are not attending the meetup and RSVPed yes to the event, please help us minimize waste and allowing others to attend the meetup by changing your response.
