Launching our 2026 summer evening walks with this deceptively short 3.5 mile route. Don't be deceived, this moderately challenging walk includes almost 1,000 feet of ascent, allows plenty of time to stop, catch your breath and appreciate the stunning views of Bilsdale including, hopefully, banks of bluebells. In these early weeks of May sunset is still before 9pm so this walk is deliberately short so we return in daylight but it is still worth carrying a headtorch just in case.
Our route takes us down the left hand side of Bilsdale following a track, turning left up into a tree lined valley with bluebells coming through all along this valley. We climb out of the valley and proceed across fields to Urra Farm. We follow the road to Maltkiln House and then follow a footpath to climb up to the edge of Urra Moor, taking time to look behind at the stunning views of Bilsdale and enjoy the birdsong. At the top we turn left along a bridleway which takes us along the edge of the moor to join the Cleveland Way. We then follow the Cleveland Way back to Clay Bank.
