Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is absolutely one of the greatest works ever composed, but it is also the first symphony to incorporate soloists and a full choir in its final movement.

Using Friedrich Schiller's poem "Ode to Joy" to express universal brotherhood and unity, this innovation transformed the symphonic genre and continues to influence composers today. Rounding out the program is Sibelius’s tone poem - Tapiola - a sumptuous sketch of a Finnish forest spirit.

We will meet before the performance and again during the intermission. Afterwards we will go to The Fairmount in Cleveland Heights.

Please purchase your ticket(s) through the Cleveland Orchestra website which allows you to choose the exact seats at various price points depending on the location. If possible select seats on the main orchestra level. (I have tickets for Row N Center Section Orchestra Level.)
