Global Game Jam 2013

Details

The Cleveland Game Devs Meetup group will be holding a Global Game Jam (GGJ) event from 5:00 PM EST on Friday, January 25th 2013 through 5:00 PMEST Sunday, January 27th 2013. Game Jams are a unique experience where artists, coders, designers and musicians collaborate to build games over a weekend based on a specific theme. For this event and with our sponsor Handelabra Studios' (http://handelabra.com/)(home of theGAME.minder app (http://handelabra.com/products/game-minder/)) and CGD member Sean O'Rourke's help, we will provide snacks and beverages all weekend long as well as a pizza dinner on Friday night. We also working on having a variety of food brought in for Saturday dinner as well. GGJ Keynotes and theme announcement will start at 6:00 PM Friday night. Final game demos and post-mortems will start at 3:00 PM Sunday.

TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE HERE (http://clevelandggj2013.eventbrite.com/)

For this Game Jam, we will be participating in the 4th Annual Global (http://globalgamejam.org/) Game Jam (http://globalgamejam.org/). The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games. Although the event is heavily focused on programming, there are many other areas where people who don’t code can contribute to a game.

We will be holding the event at the Shaker|LaunchHouse startup incubator. LaunchHouse (http://launchhouse.com (http://launchhouse.com/)) is a lean new public-private partnership that fosters entrepreneurial success and job creation through seed capital, education and innovation. This Northeast Ohio organization connects new entrepreneurs with proven business leaders in a grassroots, for-profit model that can be successfully replicated nationwide. This is an exciting and unique space that will give our group plenty of room to work. Please note that we will only be using the LaunchHouse space during the hours specified below. We will not be able to provide sleeping locations or overnight access to the facility.

It is recommended that people interested in working within a team form it in advance. Participants will need to bring their own laptops or desktops and whatever software or technology they need for creating games. Wifi Internet access will be available. Participants also have the option to build “paper prototype” games using whatever supplies they wish to bring.
