As a startup, we at Verihubs always looked into new ways of improving ourselves; both in terms of performance and cost. We started our data warehousing journey using PostgreSQL - slow, clunky, and growing rapidly in costs, up to the point that maintaining the database became a pain in itself. This talk will detail Verihubs' migration to ClickHouse, showcasing how we addressed these challenges.

In this talk, we’ll take a practical look at how Parquet and Iceberg actually work—the metadata layers, manifests, snapshots, and what ClickHouse does when querying them. We’ll cover where Iceberg makes sense today, especially for cold or historical data, and where native ClickHouse storage remains simpler, faster, and easier to operate.
