About us

clj-aus is Australia's Clojure meetup.

Australia doesn't currently have an active Clojure user group in any city. We're fixing that.

We meet monthly, hybrid: in person in Sydney, streamed for everyone else — Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth. Every session is recorded and published, so the archive is worth something even if you couldn't make the night.

What we cover: core Clojure and ClojureScript, plus the wider family around them — ClojureDart for mobile, Babashka for scripting, and newer hosts like jank (native, LLVM/C++) and Jolt (Clojure on Chez Scheme). Talks run from production experience reports to language and tooling deep-dives to beginner-friendly intros. Some months we skip the talks and write code together instead.

Whether you ship Clojure at work, tinker with it on weekends, or you're arriving from Java, Python or JavaScript and have never written a parenthesis in anger — you're welcome here. Lightning-talk slots are always open, and first-time speakers are actively encouraged.

Sydney had a Clojure meetup once. It went quiet when nobody kept it running. This time we're building it to outlast any one organiser: the site, the recordings and the teaching material are all open source.

Come say hello.
